Preschool Ministry

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” Matthew 19:14

Take the First Steps

More “firsts” occur during the preschool years than any other time in a child’s life: first smile, first time to crawl, first steps, first tooth, first loose tooth, and many more.

It is our desire to walk with your preschooler as they take their First Steps toward Jesus. We want to partner with you and help make those first impressions of faith. Together, we can help lay a strong foundation of who God is so, when the time is right, your child will be ready to make the decisions to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Preschool Worship

WeeWorship allows preschoolers to worship in the way they do best-through movement. Kids sing songs with motions, watch Bible Stories, participate in hands-on activities, play interactive games, and learn Bible skills. Each activity and song goes along with the Bible truth they are learning that day in WeeWorship and Sunday School.

Group Bible Study

Group Bible Studies give preschoolers a small group experience to learn God’s Word on their age level. As kids grow, their understanding of foundational truths grows with them. From babies to preteens, our curriculum, Bible Studies for Life, is designed around the way kids learn best. This ensures every kid has a transformative, age-appropriate encounter with God’s Word.

TeamKID

(January-May)
Kid’s in Discipleship uses games and art to teach kids how to apply God’s Word to their daily life.

WOW! Worship on Wednesdays

KidsPraise is the Preschool Music Ministry. Each week, preschoolers sing great songs, learn hip moves, play fun music games, and discover new instruments. They also may sing at various times throughout the year. These events provide the children an opportunity to use their talents to praise the Lord.

We Care For Your Kids

Send all necessary supplies in your bag including: diapers, wipes, bottles, and an extra change of clothes (for children who are not potty trained).

Please label EVERYTHING with your child’s name: diaper bags, pacifiers, bottles, etc. Labels help us ensure your child’s items are returned and kept for their use only.

Babies: Please send bottles of water and premeasured formula. A refrigerator is in Room 100 (Baby Room) for premade bottles. Let the teacher know on the information sheet you fill out if the bottle needs to be refrigerated and warmed. Babies will only be given what is in their diaper bag.

1’s – K: Children receive a snack of goldfish crackers, butter flavored crackers, and apple juice, water, or flavored drink. Allergy Alert signs will be posted if another snack is offered. Always let your child’s teacher know of any allergies.

Nursing Room: A Nursing room is available in the Preschool Building for feeding and changing.

Babies and 1’s promote to older classes within the preschool year as they mature and develop in their abilities. Parents will be notified when Preschoolers promote to a new room. 2 year olds (as of September 30) and older promote annually (usually in August).

Preschoolers are always welcome to worship with their parents but a separate worship is also provided for them during each worship service. When Kindergartners promote to 1st grade, they bein going to “Big Church” with their family.

Kindergartners participate in the Amazing Bible Race to help prepare them to attend worship. Tools are also given to parents at this time to help make this transition an exciting time.

Opportunities to Serve

The Childhood Ministry is a volunteer-based ministry that revolves around parent participation. There are many opportunities for service with the largest need on Sunday mornings during the Worship Services. Serving in the Preschool Ministry is a wonderful blessing. If you are interested, please contact the Children’s Ministry Office at 318-322-2782.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • A love for children.
  • A national security check and approval by our Children’s Team.
  • Volunteers ages 11-15 must serve in classrooms of children who are at least 1 year old.
  • Two volunteers will always be placed in each room.

Family Dedication

Our Family Dedication service is a special event for parents of babies and/or any other age children to stand together before the church and commit themselves as parents to raise their children under the guidance of God and His Word.

Dedication services occur at different times throughout the year. Please contact the Children’s Ministry Office if you would like to participate in the Family Dedication. They will be glad to let you know of the next special service. Both parents are asked to participate in a one-hour class before being able to dedicate their child. This allows you, as a parent, to know and understand the commitment you are making to God.

Safety is Our Priority

A computerized Check-In System is provided for Preschoolers (Babies-Kindergarten). Parents will receive two labels: one name tag for the child and one for parents to use when picking up their child. Labels are cross-checked before the child is released.

Texting is our primary way to reach you if we need you during a service. We will send a message to the cell phone number that you write on your child’s sign in sheet. Please keep your phone on silent while in worship.

We use KIDCHECK Check-In System. You can download the app and create an account ahead of time to make your check-in experience quick and easy.
For the safety and health of all children, pediatricians recommend that children be kept at home until free of the following symptoms for at least 24 hours.

  • Fever (free of fever without fever reducing medication)
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Persistent cough
  • Runny nose
  • Discharge from eye
We strive to maintain a nut-free environment (and/or foods processed near nuts). All snacks are provided. Snacks from outside environments are not permitted. Children who cannot consume a classroom snack because of allergies may make arrangements ahead of time to provide their own.

Please make your child’s teacher and the Children’s Minister aware of your child’s allergies. Allergy notes may be filed in our database and/or printed on your child’s label.

1’s – K: Children receive a snack of goldfish crackers, butter flavored crackers, and apple juice, water, or flavored drink. Allergy Alert signs will be posted if another snack is offered. Always let your child’s teacher know of any allergies.

We are dedicated to providing an enriching environment that will help children take their next steps toward Christ. We want to offer the best possible experience for children of all ages with developmental, emotional, or physical challenges. Please see Elaine Gardner so that our teachers know how to best teach your child.
